I am a 4th generation Floridian who grew up on a farm in the central part of the State, where working with my hands has always been a part of my life.
Having had cow whips all my life, I’ve always been fascinated by the construction and curious how they were made.
With the yearning to learn, a DVD, a few emails, taking one apart, and several trips to visit an “old time” whip maker, I began plaiting whips. The more I learned, I became like a “perfectionist” (not sure if that is a blessing or a curse) and worked hard to improve with each whip. A little more plaiting, some adjusting, yet more plaiting, and “tweaking” so that my whips bear my own special style and are not replicas of others.
